STANLEY CUP
PRESENTATION TO EARL & JUNE STANLEY
(The remarks of President Art Stanley during the annual Business Meeting)
It is now my honor and privilege to present the 2005 STANLEY CUP AWARD. This
Cup presentation was initiated three years ago to recognize annually certain persons
who have contributed liberally and faithfully to the work of our Association and to
their community at large.
- The 2003 recipients were ALVIN & LUCY ANDERSON
- The 2004 recipient was RAYMOND W. STANLEY
And for the year 2005 I would
like to ask EARL & JUNE
STANLEY to please come forward.
EARL CONNER STANLEY
and SONJA JUNE HALL STANLEY were married March
25, 1967. They have four children
and 3 Grandchildren and
a fourth Grandchild on the way.
EARL graduated
from the Meadows of Dan High
School in 1958. He served a
stint in the Army with service in Panama, and then
was employed by the Lee Telephone Company of Martinsville,
Virginia. This company eventually became SPRINT
and Earl worked his way up through
the ranks to become
Manager of the Sprint telephone office in Lexington,
Virginia. From there he retired a few years ago
and now devotes his time to building
a “retirement cabin” up
in the mountains of Southwest Virginia near the
old Stanley home place.
JUNE
was born in Franklin County,
Virginia and graduated from the Rocky Mount High
School in 1959. After graduation
she worked for the Dupont
Company in their plant at Martinsville. After marriage
to Earl in 1967 she devoted herself to homemaking
and raising her children. June
has worked part-time as
a tax consultant and for awhile worked in a doctor’s
office in Lexington.
Earl and June are both
active in their community and church and were
recently recognized
for their support of the women’s
sports program here at Randolph-Macon College
in which their daughter was involved. They are
devoted
to their
family and find great pride and joy in being
grandparents to a growing number of Stanleys.
In
our STANLEY ASSOCIATION Earl has served as
Vice President
and on the Executive Committee as a Member-at-large.
He has
attended regional meetings of Stanleys whenever
possible, and served a term as President of
the Zechariah Stanley
annual Reunion in Southwest Virginia. June
has been our NSFA Treasurer for
a number of years,
keeps track
of our membership statistics, and has provided
us with an invaluable service as our Sales
Manager, which includes
all of our book sales and Stanley memorabilia.
In
addition, they have traveled widely to serve
as
Advisors for
the planning of our annual NSFA reunions, and
given liberally of their time and talent.
EARL
and JUNE, it is my privilege
to recognize you for your continuing
service and commitment
to our National
Stanley Family Association, and on behalf
of all of us to present you with
this Stanley
Cup in appreciation
for all that you have done and are doing
for us! |
