REUNION SPEAKERS

Friday, June 22, 2018 - 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Cousin Don Stanley -- "I Inherited Grandma's Stuff, Now What?"  --
Preserving and Sharing Family Photos, Memorabilia and Genealogy Records.

Donald Wayne StanleyDon Stanley grew up in Forsyth County, NC close to where Strangeman Stanley (#3-7) and six subsequent generations of his Stanley Ancestors lived.   Fifty years ago Don caught the genealogy bug when he discovered his great-great-grandfathers 1844 grave in an abandoned family cemetery.   By 1971 he had accumulated enough evidence to make the connection between his generation and previous ones back to Thomas (1), which formed the basis for a paper entitled, 'Our Stanley Ancestors' written for distribution to close relatives.  That was followed by compilation and publication of a 5 volume set of Forsyth County, NC Cemetery Records.   Don was in complete remission from the genealogy disease between 1980 and 2007 when he retired from the Biology Department Faculty at East Carolina University.   Recently he has begun organizing, digitizing and archiving thousands of family photos, letters, newspaper clippings, and school memorabilia.
